When I said objectively, I was being sarcastic..and seriously, The Beatles were like the watered down, safe version of the youth music at that time..they really were like justin bieber..of course they were more talented..but they weren't the musical equivalent to Milton or Shakespeare ffs...that would be someone completely outside of the genre, most likely..Beethoven might be comparable to Shakespeare..the beatles would be more like Chuck Palahniuk..decent ideas, somewhat talented but overall a fucking loser.

you're mad because there is wide consenus in the musical world that the beatles are the best modern music while you disagree, that's ok but don't try and talk about what you know little about.

I listened to them a lot in high school..honestly the beatles are really low on my list, I just find their music try-hard and irritating.
>>1861486
People only think they are the best because they confuse what is most popular with what is best..typical of western culture really..you see it everywhere..maybe it has something to do w/ our democratic ideals? I don't know, but I swear to god if anyone thinks the beatles are better than David Bowie they can choke on a bag of dicks..how did i forget about the truly greatest modern musician?

>> No.1861488

Not the same guy, but I enjoy The Velvet Underground more than The Beatles myself. Revolver is my favorite Beatles album, but there are still a few not-so-great songs on there. "Yellow Submarine" anyone?

>People only think they are the best because they confuse what is most popular with what is best..typical of western culture really..you see it everywhere..maybe it has something to do w/ our democratic ideals?
Or maybe they just made the best music? Lady Gaga makes the most popular music today but no serious critic calls her the best of today, but they do with the Beatles because they truly are the best modern music has to offer.

>> No.1861500

1. None really, I like a lot of books and there is no favourite. If pushed I might say Altered Carbon-Richard Morgan but its still one of many favs.

2. None, like some Beatles tracks but I don't think they are as good as other people seem to. I was brought up in the 70s in a Rolling Stones & Deep Purple household :)

3. Black moggy or English Blue or tabby/torty cross

4. Betty Blue

5. Err really boring but its probably the Military Times ( a UK military history magazine) or Sky at Night.

Haha I am that guy and Revolver is my favorite beatles album too. Weird. I think revolver just had a heroin vibe.
>>1861495
Popular music, and music in general has changed a lot since the time of the beatles..with the proliferation of filesharing..independent groups are getting way more attention now than they were in the 60's..and so yeah, today you will have some people actually saying GaGa is the best, but many more saying ''well, actually the best music today is being made by a chill wave collective of social deviants from san diego that I downloaded..blahblahfuckingblah"..When the Beatles were king, they were abosfuckinglutely saturated in the market..because of independent artists being so available today my adolescent memories won't have a GaGa soundtrack (mostly) but my parents damn sure remember the beatles, the stones, etc. because that's all they could really get their hands on.

>> No.1861504

>>1861495
>truly are the best modern music has to offer.
I think you sir do not know what you are talking about either.

The music world has moved on and now use this to refer to Radiohead. I'm not even joking here or making some cute /mu/ reference.

That said, Beatles and Velvet Underground are both good. VU however, had a better good to avarage record ratio than the Beatles. That's my opinion however, so don't jump on it.

>> No.1861507

>>1861495
Give it time and enough fans, then maybe.

Also, what sort of critics are we talking about? Few if any critics in classical music would call The Beatles the best modern music has to offer. Likely they would point to composers like Arvo Part or Steve Reich. What I'm saying is it's hardly an exact science to determine the "best modern music has to offer" since different critics have different criteria.

>> No.1861508

>>1861504
I'm the one arguing for the VU, but how do the ratios work when the beatles had more albums? i mean..i may just be really that hopeless with math. Also, yeah Radiohead are pretty amazing. Haven't listened since Kid A though.
