Just finished this and man...there's just that feeling of solitude and void after finishing a masterpiece. It truly lived up to the hype. Thanks for the anons that recommended it after "A farewell to arms".

I'm about to look for more books like this, I think there's one called "Gravity's Rainbow". Do you think it'd be a proper continuation to Remarque? Or what are other good non-cucked war novels?

So it really is that good? Could it be a good continuation? I just loved how brutal and realistic everything was with Remarque, and yet the metaphors he used such as with the rain were just beautiful.

Thanks anon, it really has been quite a ride. I hope to read more and I remember another called "Wings of Iron" or "Wings of Liberty" but can't exactly point to the name.

you're welcome. If you want to read about peace times, but kind of related to what you just read, read The Black Obelisk by Remarque. It plays out during the depression in germany after ww 1

Gravity's Rainbow is a really hard read anon, and I don't think it's especially what you're looking for anyways. -t. has read the first 120 pages of it.
May I suggest a non-fiction book? This is literally my favourite book and you should read it. It's about the Bosnian war in the 1990s.

Remarque is a master of metaphor and simple beauty. He never writes more than he needs but always gets full effect. One of the most underrated. I guess he fell from grace cause his later books went kind of more... crowd pleasing. Still are good though.

That sounds good, maybe once I'm done with >>18608554 and >>18608243 will check it out. Remarque really got a way with words that gets me good, reminds me a bit of the feeling Orwell gives and his vocabulary and metaphors are so good.

>>18608591
Thanks anon! I'll check it out after Storm of Steel since as you mention Gravity's Rainbow is quite extensive.

I haven't ever read a purely war book. I feel like war literature is pretty low hanging fruit, unless it's like War and Peace or something. Please change my mind. Thanks.

I just got tired of always reading scifi and fantasy so wanted to try something different. What others would you recommend, anon?

I've read some philosophy but was in the mood of an action packed and dramatic story, hence why I started it. Remarque just surprised me by making it hold more substance than "I shoot bad guy, he ded"

Homage to Catalonia is a lighter war read, would strongly recommend.
