Because there still isn't a single decent author supporting their ideology, it is simply too soon. Only time will tell if this is a fad, or if, through forcing minority quotas something decent will emerge (given enough time, it is almost a certainty). Until then, they are confined to rummagin through the works of the past, and though laughable misinterpretation superimposing their own views on the work. Because contemporary works, even though they all praise them, still aren't there yet, it's just a farce.

I actually support these people and their identity, but I think they should stick to advancing their own voices in the present (speaking of literature here) or perhaps dig out forgotten or surpressed authors of the past (much easier with gay authors, trans - not so much, it was never as present of course, especially the further back you go), there is some merit to that. But doing this, with Tolkien (and others), holding lectures about readings which are questionable at best, and just plain sad most of the time is not only damaging their own worldview - it is intellectual pollution of the highest order. It is actually worse than destroying a work, they are attempting an act of cultural and historical vandalism.

I heard a fascinating podcast with three old-school feminist achdemics on a possible sexual counter revolution coming. All three were quite pessimistic for gay & women's rights because of the over extention by the transgender/non-gender debate when it lacks serious support amongst common people and sold academic work.
