Gnosticism is a mix of Platonism and Judaism. Jung wasn’t a strict platonist, he also believed in Jewish concepts like Satan, angels and demons etc

Jung is a mix of interesting ideas and magical thinking hoaxshit.

I can see why artists like him because he absolutely does get at something with the archetypes and symbols acting on the unconcious mind.

The unconcious has been relegated to the "reptile brain" in modern thinking, with just vauge definitions like stress. This isn't correct. Only about 50 bits of information make it to conciousness, while the brain is running at 38 petroflops. However, the parts of your brain that deal with complex literature of mathematics don't go dark when you focus on bowling or Vidya or sex. They are still running.

Hence you have Einstein having a breakthrough on special relativity while watching painters and day dreaming. Indeed, many mathematical break throughs come when people are NOT focusing on problems. The recursive system of perception we have access too massively cuts down on data.

So he is right there, but he also puts in all sorts of falsifiable junk.

As flawed as Dennett's Conciousness Explained and Pinker's How the Mind Works are, something like these should be ready before Jung so people know where modern neuroscience has proved him laughably wrong.

Where I have found Jung useful is my personal life. Jungian literary analysis, like Robert A. Johnson's He have helped me make sense of life through myths and with self reflection.

He also got me interested in Gnosticism which inspired me to read a lot of philosophy. Whole I ultimately grew to reject Gnosticism for Boehme's creation as God coming to know itself, and Hegel's meaning through negation, I never would have made it there without Jung.

The fact that Jung may have been treating his functional form of schizophrenia, and at the very least used it as a form of self existential therapy makes the book alone a masterpiece. It's not so much what the words or messages written are, but the book's tone, structure, and path it follows through Jung's subconscious that makes it amazing.

But I'm a practicing therapist, so stuff like that is relevant to my field of interests. It's not a book authored with the intent of mass marketing or identifying with the stories.
