not only did he utterly failed to translate it right, some other guy already did it

>> No.18596624

>>18596025
Why would you translate it if it's already been translated? Are you just practicing whatever language it's in?

I borrowed some three translated terms to help me in my translation, and that means I'm not a translator! I'm so sorry... I should just become an hero now...
Also, if you have to be original in every single word you translate, it just means you're a bad translator, since it doesn't mean accuracy, but pure originality, which itself means nothing

>>18597294
I do know Sanskrit and Classical Tibetan, actually

A lot of the major translators of Tibetan Buddhist texts into modern Western languages go to Tibet/India for years to learn both the language and material more thoroughly. Do you have any intention of pursuing that? Or are you just translating to test yourself?

you said the entire passage was translated, now it's only 3 terms?

I'm translating, because I was requested by the author, which is a Lama

Very cool. It's important to get as much of this stuff translated before most of it lost. IIRC there have been western scholar-translators who discovered manuscripts in libraries that had fallen out of study among the Tibetans today, or versions of texts that were thought to only exist in one of the languages (Sanskrit/Tibetan/Chinese) but not the others.
