I would put it on the same level as Blood Meridian and Gravity's Rainbow. Why is it not discussed much here? is it because it is by a woman? or by an african american? Well, if you don't know about it check it out, i believe /lit/ would love it!

It’s great if you’re poor. Join the rich bros and read Tolstoy and Proust.

Nobody said a black American woman can’t write a good book. I think people just don’t like pretending it’s the greatest book ever written or anywhere close to it because it’s simply not.

lol, have you been on this board? every african american writers thread becomes a "exercise my 1st amendment right" thread or "niggas can't write" thread. Besides, nobody called it the greatest. It's not Moby Dick, but imo it's at least in the top 20 best american novels.

Song of Solomon is better.

I've read Song of Solomon and Bluest Eye and those were both excellent. Still need to get to Beloved, though.
As an aside, you probably would have more luck discussing the book if you didn't bring up /pol/ in the first post.

I don’t love the writing but the balance between spooky and literary is very good, probably the best I’ve read.
