John Bunyan
How many of you varmints have read it, and which edition should I get?

It’s not necessarily a fun read. Would only recommend if yours is an academic interest. Edition will not matter at all…

Thanks anon, I think I'll like it. Am a big fan of Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners, and also have an interest in the history of the English novel.
I think the edition might matter:
>The Pilgrim's Progress, from this world, to that which is to come was first published in Holborn, London by Nathaniel Ponder, a non-conformist, at the beginning of 1678 in an edition of 191 pages. It was an immediate success. A second edition appeared before the end of 1678, with many new passages, a third in 1679, and several subsequent editions before Bunyan's death in August 1688. The Second Part of The Pilgrim's Progress was published in 1684, with a second edition in 1686. Eventually, the English text comprised some 108,260 words.
