what the fuck was the point of dedicating an entire chapter to his opinions on Genesis?

it’s a bad book
it’s just a bunch of copypasta from 80s GQ articles mixed with muh horrific ultraviolence. incels overrate it because muh bateman memes. midwits overrate it because it appeals to their midwit sensibilities and they somehow find the endless superficial rambling muh profound. BEE is and always was a cringe and midwit “author”

Brainlet here. Seems to me that the purpose is to show the extent of how fake or “constructed” he is as a person. He goes on and on with extreme detail about a musical artist, more so than most people can on topics they are actually passionate about, but it all comes out feeling like an amalgamation of a bunch of magazine reviews. In all three chapters of this style he basically says that the best work of these artists is their most commercial, most popular, most cleanly and professionally produced, because to him that’s what art should strive to be. This perfect, clean, glossy package, just as he tries to do with his appearance and personality.

On his podcast he said he fought with his editor to keep in the music reviews because they show how psychotic Bateman is...

because it's just the kind of shallow, mundane type of train of thought that people get lost in, it reinforces the stream of consciousness nature of the book. It also hammers home just how disconnected and meaningless the narrative really is. This guy's raping and killing by night, running million dollar accounts for a major hedge fund by day but never really reflects on either of those, and instead can go off on these long tangents about plastic 80s pop music. Life is just a big playground to him.

I may be wrong but I think he's using the greentext incorrectly on purpose as some kind of statement. I don't know what he mean by it anon, all I know is he's clearly smarter than the rest of us

I hope he doesn't do me next

Actually agree. This is the one and only time where I’d say the movie adaption was more enjoyable, since theres no chapter-long monologues about nothing and the comedic aspects of the book were way more pronounced.
