“The imperial democracy that held the world beneath its sway, from the senators who bore historic names down to the humblest tiller of the soil, from Julius Caesar down to the smallest shopkeeper in the back streets of Rome, was at the mercy of a small group of usurers,” as quoted in G. Ferrero, Greatness and Decline of the Roman Empire, Vol. vi, William Heinemann Ltd, London, 1908, 223.
Cannot find the source for this quote, don’t think this series of Roman history books has a vol 6.
Also this guy makes some wild claims with no evidence, like saying slaves in late Rome outnumbered citizens 5 to 1. Should I keep reading this shit?

Only to understand his camps perspective. I didn’t think it was going to be so scholarly. Thank you for the confirmation

Some parts are legit but other parts are not. Jews having their fingers all up in the global banking pie is certain, but the extent he claims it goes to seems dubious

Meh. Is there a non-antisemetic neoclassical liberal book on the subject? There must be.

He also claims that a US congressman (forget his name) was assassinated in the 30s for opposing the Fed, with no evidence or mentioning that the guy wasn’t even in congress anymore when he died. This book is trash

There are a number of suspicions things surrounding this book. That being said the idea that these banks fund and promote political stuff is pretty clearly true. I rather doubt that the banks are themselves the top of the chain though, they are probably instruments.

I found the quote goys.
I think the Goodson took it from Mark Jeffrey's "The Modern Idolatry" which also refers to p.223 of Volume VI.
I know some parts of the book are missing in the 4th edition when compared to the one on archive.org. Maybe the references have been modified as well?
pic related, the actual quote from volume 1 of Ferrero's work.

Neoclassical liberals are the free market kinds. They don’t like central banking
