To what extent did you understand this book?

I got filtered in Chapter one and got sent back to Hume's treatise for the first time

>> No.18551680

I have never read it. I have a natural aversion to Kant, though I love Schopenhauer and Aristotle. Some people I just don't like.

Took me several reads but it's not that difficult once you understand it, which sounds silly but it's true. Peirce said he spent 3 years reading and re-reading the first Critique until he had basically memorised its structure. It's a book to test yourself with and to keep revisiting. It's a good litmus test for whether someone is serious about reading philosophy or not.

Parts of it will always be obscure, like the infamous transcendental schematism, but for the most part it's simple.

Here's a tip: The hard core of the book is shorter than it looks at first, because the Dialectic is much easier than the Aesthetic and Analytic sections. It's downhill past the Analytic.

I still think people overcomplicate their approach to Kant, Hegel, and Heidegger. Over the years I've must seen hundreds of threads on reddit and 4chan on how the OPs claimed they tried reading their works just to abandon, return to and re-abandon without finishing on periods sometime spaning several years.

Outside of very rare circumstances (PhD level work) I don't think anyone will be required to know more about these types of works than you find in a free YT playlist or mp3 lecture course on them which should, in total, last for about 20-25 hours.

You listen 30-45 min/day and take notes and in 6 months you can have a solid understanding of these 3 figures that always intimidate people.
