3g Kindles are on sale for $164. Is it worth it?

I'm also going to use it for torrented e-books.

>> No.1855128

3g isn't going to get a lot of iron in your diet. You should just stick with the supplements for now.

>> No.1855126

Yes.

>> No.1855141

i have the wifi version and its great. i dont know if you really need the 3g version unless you plan on downloading books outside of your house, even then you can just go somewhere public with wifi

>> No.1855152

Public wi-fi is common enough that the 3G version seems a bit silly unless you really must download a book in the middle of the countryside or on holiday in India.

Can someone with a Kindle do me a favor for my own comparison? Can you take a picture of the Kindle in the middle of some novel with the text size setting on the smallest text size and then put that alongside a novel with what you consider average text size on a random page.

>> No.1855188

Why do you need 3G?

The surfing the internet on these things is absolute shit and you're probably going to be pirating all your books anyway.

Related: I want the cheapest functional e-reader out there to read my stolen, free or public domain PDFs. I don't need anything else than pdfs on a screen, and I feel like it should cost less than $100. Is there such a device? Google/Amazon are no help.

You could try something like the TREKSTOR eBook Player 7, its a lcd device no eInk, but should be enough for your task.

Personally I wouldn't bother, save a little more and get a kindle or whatever, epub/mobi are far superior to pdf. I can guarantee you will find almost all of your books in those formats.

please stfu about kindles already

ayn rand is bad enough as it is

If your read a lot of books and plan to pirate books for your kindle then yes. It will pay for itself soon enough, especially if you like reading popular novels.

Nothing decent brand new, but you could probably buy a kindle 1 or 2 or ebay for hardly anything. They are way worse than the Kindle 3 though, hence the low price tag.

Thanks anons. I'm kind of an e-book loser; I just want to read the .pdfs and .txts I've come across for free. Have almost 100 by now, and dislike reading on my laptop. But I might just save up for the Kindle, since it looks like Trekstor book's just over $100, and I don't see it for sale in U.S...

I have a Kindle related question, but don't want to start yet another Kindle thread, so I'll put it here:

What font settings do you use when reading on your Kindle?
- Between 1 and 8?
- Regular, Condensed or Sans Serif
- Gap between lines: small/medium/large

Personally I use 2, condensed, medium. Could read smaller but since it's so easy to move to the next page with a small push of the finger I don't want to strain my eyes unnecessarily. Just curious what others read in.

OP here. Should I get a case while I'm at it?

The cheapest used one is 30 bucks, and I could really use that LED light. I feel it's overpriced however.

Cases are well worth it. Obviously it keeps it safe, but also makes it easier to hold and avoid accidentlly turning the page (not sure if its just my grip or if everyone gets this without a cover).

If you read in the dark, or read in dim light and have poor eyesight then the LED is a must.

3, condensed, medium.

FYI, kindle doesn't support epub for some reason.

shit, man. it's called asking for advice on whether to buy a product or not.

>> No.1855765

you'll learn to deal with the shitty internet, which in reality isn't that bad; most of the times when you're out, you just need a quick google search or a definition anyway.

you can look for sweet, comprising deals on e-bay that basically give you touched versions for $20 off the price, or the final price without Amazon's ridiculous shipping costs.

it's great, do it.

>> No.1855770

Don't get 3G, especially if you're torrenting ebooks. They have software on there that tells them what books you have. This is probably overcautious, but still, the 3G is useless anyway.

Also, the cover with the light is a ripoff. Your battery will last about 3 hours with the light on and I honestly can't see it ever being used that much anyway. You can buy a clip on LED for a few bucks if you desperately need one. Just get a plain hard cover.

Buying e-books.

You hate your money don't you?
