Has todays abundance of easily accessible answers and information to almost everything reinforced Schopenhauer's views on reading too much? In other words, has having the ability to answer almost all of life's questions using your phone or computer created a generation which no longer thinks for themselves?

Have you ever seen the average person look something up on the internet? I wouldn't be too worried.

lol no i don't think so
People don't know anything. They don't read. You say "easily accessible info" but what i expect from the average person isn't exactly reading Plato and Shakespeare

People don't search answers to the questions that require thinknig on the Internet. People search ''Best place for Ramen near me'', not ''what's the meaning of life''

We have this thread every day. Sometimes more than once.

Men who spend too much time reading never grasp that there is a difference in the understanding generated by a text and the understanding generated by lived experience. Even the most lucid description, the most transcendent allegory, or the most sonorous declaration pales in comparison to lived experience. All the meaningful ideas I have read have resurfaced reborn. The shock of meeting them after having encountered them in the confines of a bloodless book first was no less severe--that is the bloodless construct was lacking in substance. When they incarnated in my own life, when I was forced to wrestle with their presence with direct consequences on my sphere of influence, then they became embodied. Their former shadowy selves dissolved into the ether before the panting, sweating, stinking living thing.

Reading too much is not correctly stating what he means. What he’s talking about is people who read things and just subsume those ideas and conclusions into their own way of thinking as though they were facts. Anyone can do this no matter how much or little they read, but midwits don’t really have the understanding to take ideas from
books and then produce their own unique thoughts on them. They’re too caught up in the false superiority created by just regurgitating a famous intellectuals opinions as if they were their own.

This is what I'm referring to. That the quantity of information for anything available today reduces most people to someone who believes they think, but in reality just regurgitates what they've learned.

Back in high school kids would be bullshitting as they do and ask pseudo deep questions. I would pull out my phone, google the question, and then tell them the answer. This somehow managed to impress a lot of people. They thought I was something of a scholar

I had this same opinion when I was 15. Then I found Wittgenstein.

You've really been trying to get this point across. It's a good point. Schoppy is based. But let up a little. If reading bad books is a huge waste plus makes you stupid, reading this website is the anathema and makes you autistic.
