I felt this book was thrice as long as it needed to be. That the main plot went on a deeply Freudian bent was also disappointing, I got hooked expecting questions about self-identity.
I also felt bad how he didn't bother to talk to his father, while he tried hard to connect with his mother, who only treated him like shit. Though that's not a criticism of the plot, just how I felt about it.
