Am I the only one who hates book reviews? I roll my eyes every time I see one of those like on the cover of picrel. Anyway, I would recommend The Empire of the Steppes by Rene Grousset. And Rome is a massive topic, so any specific period? You should first check out the Roman/Greek historians themselves though first.
