doesnt plato utterly btfo this dude within the first few pages of the republic?

>> No.18494628

Yes, every single modern "philosophy" can be sound somewhere in Plato as a foil to Socrates. Philosophy begins and ends with the Greeks.

>> No.18494654

Why is everything on this board an "X refuted Y" proposition? You can read and agree with multiple philosophers, you faggots.

>> No.18494913

>>18494654
I… I… literally can’t refute this.

Who would believe two contradicting statements from two philosophers at the same time, it would make you seem schizophrenic...oh wait forgot where I was

Because even frigne or more obscure opinions eventually create there own "stock phrases" and lines of thinking that the vast majority begin talking like NPCs in there own right

Parmenides+Heraclitus are two contradictory philosphers who are perfect together

>parmenides: everything is one unchanging substance
>heraclitus: everything is one substance undergoing change
>combined: everything is one substance(undergoing change; and this never changes)

Plato unifies the two in his theory of forms. Fun still but a little schizo desu

>> No.18495126

>>18495112
i guess better expressed as

>parmenides: everything is one substance that never changes
>heraclitus: everything is one substance that change
>combined: everything is one substance(undergoing change-- and this never changes)

I must be used to more rigorous fields than philosophy.

>> No.18495153

>>18495129
philosophy is plenty rigorous, but the lack of primary sources for heraclitus and parmenides makes serious analysis pointless. its enough to get the gist of it and move on

also makes it fun to play 'what if' with the pre-Socratics. Anaximander has the clearest description of God i've ever seen if you're generous with the reading.

>two contradicting statements
What, did they only each make one statement in their lives?

Dude shut the fuck up. You're on 4chan, you're not an intellectual.

really? fuck me thats fascinating, thanks man. Hegel has been on my list but i've been wrapping up Plato before moving on to other dialecticians.
