He promoted pagan ‘sophiology’, esoteric ecumenism, papalism and had ties with both leading people in the theosophy movement and the jesuits/vatican. In one of his eulogies on dostoevsky, soloviev criticized his former friend for his orthodoxy and ‘russian national sentimentalism’, and its incompatibility with his own esoteric universalism.

Exactly, hence why the Orthodox sects are not the true Church. A withered branch that has no evangelical zeal and can only look inwards and be artificial nationalist outgrowths of their specific regions. Orthodoxy has no claim to being the true Church and never did, Solovyov makes that very clear.

Of course. The Vatican is the center of the Christian faith, where the head of the universal Church resides. It's not surprising at all that a Christian who recognizes the Catholic Church as being the Church that Jesus Christ founded on Peter the Rock would recognize its universality.

again, the issue is not merely the universality of the papal see (which is an innovation and effect if frankish political corruption, but that is beside the point here), but the fact that soloviev taught theosophical ideas abiut the dawning of ‘the new age’ and coming forth of a new transhumanist “divine race” and he saw the vatican play a role in that which is of chief concern for any orthodox (little o) christian, also within the roman church.
