Horror’s Call. Yes where that crocodile book came from. It’s literally an entire series about that which is entirely written by an actual schizo.

I read a lot of crowley, the book of lies but also obscurer stuff like liber 7777, also the three big volumes of the hermetic order of the golden dawn and finally came to the conclusion that at the turn of the century you still needed a really good excuse to have a sex orgy and this is what those fuckers came up with. Waste of time.

Crowley's poetry is genuinely good though. Not groundbreaking or revolutionary or exceptional, but he had talent and it's a good read.

Renaissance literature in general has a shit ton of occultism. The vast majority of the books on the right side of this chart are more or less esoteric.

Pico della Mirandola, Ficino, Alciati, Colonna, Bruno, Campanella, Cardano, Della Porta, Pomponazzi, Della Riviera, Pietro d'Abano, Paracelsus, Agrippa, and all the others up until Johannes Valentinus Andreae and the modern alchemists.

I agree, there's beautiful stuff in the book of lies as well, it's basically poetry. But as a mystical system its bunk. Bunch of charlatans.

this, plus the conference of the birds and the pseudo dionysius is really all you need, everything else (excluding the i ching, golden flower, and other base eastern mystical texts I'm not fully aware of) seems like larp

Stop trying to meme counter-initiation, your autism clouds your perception and Guenon would be ashamed of you.

Agreed. I think it’s useful to make a distinction between occultism and esotericism. Occultism seeks to preserve this ancient mystery tradition that supposedly goes back to ancient Egypt, while esotericism’s aim is to deepen our knowledge and love of God. The occultist is essentially a pagan, an idolator, and does not understand the message of Christ.

I used to do a lot of I Ching divination a long time ago, it’s deep but really Chinese. The different commentaries make it interesting.
Lotus Sutra, especially the third sutra on Samantabadhra is a visualization exercise that I appreciated once I learned enough western occultism to appreciate what I was reading. Similarly, there is a pdf of three pure land sutras out there, the middle one is a series of visualization exercises to reach a view of the pure land.
I rarely visit /lit/ but when I do I binge. This is like the fifth thread where I’ve brought up Meditations on the Tarot. I had to soldier through it but it’s great.
Book of Psalms is white magic.
Dion Fortune wrote some good stuff. I couldn’t get into Cosmic Doctrine but Mystical Qabalah is good. Training and Work of an Initiate is good.
Gareth Knight has written some good books, I liked his book on Tarot and Experience of Inner Worlds is really good.
Emerald Tablet is short but gives you plenty to unpack. I listened to some Jorge Ben years before I got into any of this stuff, started listening to him again last year and had my mind blown because he’s deep into this shit and I had no idea.
Law of One/Ra material is trippy a f.
Starting some Boehme and Saint-Martin now.
I need to read the Kore Kosmou.
Programmed to Kill isn’t occult but it’s fringe and super fucked up.
Morning of the Magicians is a super fun read.
