Yo anons i'd like to read LoTR but i'm afraid of getting overwhelmed by the content as i'm kinda new to reading books, do you think it's a good idea to read it rn or should i first read something more simple to train my brain?

read it now, it's not hard to understand it's just boring when he keeps talking about grass and trees and shit for 5 pages straight.

LoTR its fine. The Silmarillion on the other hand is a mess. The only thing I understand was that Sauron was not the top bad guy, he was just a fucking employe of the devil himself. And Gandalf is not a human, like... I thought that Gandalf was a guy who learned magic a long time ago, but no, he is like a demigod.

Should i read first The Silmarillion before LoTR?

Absolutely not, but if you're new to reading, starting with The Hobbit might be a good idea.

The Elric books aren't terrible

>> No.18435272

The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander. They're much simpler than lotr, but they still have a very epic scope while feeling intimate and familiar at the same time.

Also the well at the world's end by William morris

It can be fine if you read it now, but there's just no guarantee. So I'd say warm yourself up to it with some other fantasy.
