Is it possible to learn a new language? I’m reading through the preface of a language learning textbook and I’m already overwhelmed.

You've already learned English. You can learn another language. It will take a long time, you can't avoid that. But it's possible. If you want to, then you will do it.

why learn a new language? you already speak english, is there no translation available? think about how much else you could get done in the time it would take to learn a new language, specifically to the point in which you'll understand better than through a translation.
