This was quite the find, have not been to my local store in a while and saw an old, worn, hardcover copy with a dent about halfway through. Opened up to find what I first thought to be a leaf, only to see it was a dry, pressed flower.
Nice to think someone pressed it in there for a reason, whatever it could have been.

That's not a bookmark, but a snack for Americans to keep reading

This is literally what Americans do, they drop little snackies in between the pages so they can push to read those final 10-15 pages and get a little reward

Not OP but I'm reading the Samuel Butler translation. I asked whether it was a good translation in another thread and someone replied saying "Yes, it is one of the better ones."

I bought a copy of "The History of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" having only checked a few pages and ascertained it was in good shape, only to find that it had been heavily noted by a chinese person, so the margins are all filled with gook runes.

Not him, but if you're at all interested in poetry, Pope's verse translation is arguably the best. The prose versions each have their own merits and downfalls, a bit like bible translations, but Pope's Iliad stands atop them in glorious verse.

There were two within a ten minute drive of my house, but they both closed during the pandemic, so now I've only got the library and a B&N, and they're both ~25 minutes away. Feelsbad. Hopefully a new one will pop up soon once things get closer to normal.
