Thoughts on this? :)

>Yudkowsky is an autodidact[15] and did not attend high school or college.[16] He was raised in Orthodox Judaism.[17]
>Yudkowsky has also written several works of fiction. His fanfiction novel, Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, uses plot elements from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series to illustrate topics in science.[9][13] The New Yorker described Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality as a retelling of Rowling's original "in an attempt to explain Harry's wizardry through the scientific method".[14]
Name one good reason why I shouldn't dismiss him immediately

This dude doesn’t apply rationality to his weight, he thinks it’s impossible to lose fat. A lack of formal education shows itself at some point in life. I also grew up in religious Judaism, we never learned about nutrition

I've read a lot of his writing. I don't know if this book is a collection of his essays or not. His essays are free online, just read one of them.

I guess if I had to recommend one to start with I'd say:

or

He does come off as a blowhard at first, but I think he's got the goods. Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality comes off as really obnoxious and egotistical at first, but eventually it improves, and mostly justifies the unpleasant parts retroactively. Like a horror movie that starts off really boring so that when things start to get crazy we get the contrast with normal life.

Yudkowsky used to be almost unheard of on 4chan, for a long time, but now there are threads about him and his friends all the time.

He posted a shirtless picture of himself on twitter to prove he's lost weight. I can't find it though. He looked about normal size. Maybe he's gained it back since, I don't know.

I think he thinks that normal weight-loss advice is bad. He used some sort of alternative way.

Power fulfillment fantasy, but for severely autistic audience instead of preteen girl one. The brand of writing is a bit like cd.p.s Youth In Revolt. Rick And Morty book form.

I've actually read the thing. Most of what Yudkowsky says is right, but it's the same stuff you'd get from reading "Thinking Fast and Slow" and "Predictably Irrational". You'd be better off reading those books as the authors actually did the research. There are also some stupid stuff, like his support for cryogenics.
As for his fiction (HPMOR, Three World Collide), I've read them too. He reminds me of David Foster Wallace because he always goes onto some tangent to lecture you about something. Harry comes off as incredibly pompous and always wins.
For some reason, I want to hate his works, but I can't, because, strictly speaking, there's nothing wrong with them. I actually did learn a lot from reading his essays.

Don't get put off by his weird background. Just read one of his blog posts, and if you enjoy it, read the entire thing.

The book is an edited version of his blog posts. The language is informal and the metaphors are cringy at times, but honestly, it makes the ideas very easy to digest so it doesn't bother me. The chapters (especially in the first book) are very short and try to only convey a single idea at a time. If you prefer to read it in physical form, you can buy the first two books in print form.

I never understood why till I started being a /pol/fag
Book is trash. You're better off reading Taleb + some other pop-sci book except "Thinking fast and Slow"
