nice stack OP. recommend you check out edward abbey.

>“Men come and go, cities rise and fall, whole civilizations appear and disappear-the earth remains, slightly modified. The earth remains, and the heartbreaking beauty where there are no hearts to break....I sometimes choose to think, no doubt perversely, that man is a dream, thought an illusion, and only rock is real. Rock and sun.”

Not sure whether you are Irish or just interested in Ireland/Irish literature, but you should definitely check out Flann O'Brien - particularly if you enjoy Ulysses. Although Flann's books are more surreal in nature

If that's the case you'll have almost 100% heard the poem "a pint of plain is your only man". It's actually from Flann's book At Swim Two Birds, shame he doesn't get the recognition the rest of the lads get but sure look

When I started I was actually really into Stoicism, and I still am but I wanted to read the Meditations in Greek. You can't really learn Koine without reading the bible and it became a habit. From there it's only natural to start reading more about the bible and various traditions and history so I do consider myself a Christian now, so Iof course I have that to motivate me. Ultimately, the whole project is one big sunken cost fallacy. I put so much time into learning Greek that I can't stop until I become fluent. Anything less then I've wasted all that effort.
