Paul Laurence Dunbar is the king of negro literature. You can find his collected poems (including the fascinating dialect poems) and his swan song novel, Sport of the Gods both on gutenberg press for free, along with some short story collections. Phyllis Wheatley is also great if you want more poetry. You'll probably see every now and then Sutton E Grigg's black utopia novel Imperium in Iperio, which I didn't have a lot of love for but it's mercifully short reading.
