18364719 No.18364719 [Reply] [Original]

Context: The story follows a king who cannot has a son and needs a successor, the god Baal helps him on his behalf and he finds a woman to marry and have a son with, he than becomes greatly sick and his land too, but the gods help him recover, than his son thinks he is still to sick and politely ask for the throne, after all he did have a son to be his successor:

>Yassub the Lad left;
>he entered his father’s presence;
>he raised his voice and declared:
>“Listen, Kirta the Noble,
>listen closely and pay attention:
>when raiders raid, you talk,
>when there are invaders, you are idle.
>You have let your power become feeble:
>you do not judge the cases of widows,
>you do not preside over the hearings of the oppressed;
>you do not drive out those who burden the yoke of the poor,
>you do not feed the orphan before you,
>nor the widow at your back;
>for you have taken to a sick bed,
>you languish on a bed of disease.
>Step down from the kingship—let me be king, from your dominion—let me be enthroned.”

The wise old king is going to happily hand over power to his son right? Wrong nigger, this isn't Egypt or Mesopotamia this is fucking Canaan

>But Kirta the Noble replied:
>“My son, may Horon SMASH, may Horon Smash your HEAD,
>Astarte, Baal’s other self, your SKULL.
>May you FALL at the peak of your years, in your prime may you be HUMBLED.”

Can we get some Canaanite recommendations? I’m familiar with the KTU, but it appears to be a mostly academic text. Any books on the mythology itself?

Just be warned that a lot of the text are incomplete or fragmentary like most Ancient Near East text, and a lot of the text is the offer describing what was missing in the narrative or making assumptions so it won’t flow perfectly, but I still enjoy the stories somehow it’s very fascinating to learn about the “idols” of the Bible

No one ever talks about The Coomerites who sent a plague of semen and flooded the Canaanite cities thus overthrowing the established hegemony and erecting Coomer statues that are still buried to this day and are only one earthquake away from unearthing their girthy display.

Unspeakably based. I honestly can't believe how few people can appreciate the Bible as a compilation of ancient Near Eastern lore, even if passed through the hands of Levitical redactors.
