Lmao How To Read a Book is unironically one of the worst books I've read that should be mandatory reading for everyone.

It's more of a critique on how most people read and how flawed most people absorb some information, but then reject others.

It has some great lessons on what to do with new information and how you should analyze a book for fair criticism, leaving out most emotions and trying to be as objective as possible.

Its a 6/10 for being boring and needlessly wordy, but a 10/10 for reinventing reading for me.

I wouldn't say I was filtered. I read it and use it's teaching on every book I own/download. I just don't agree that the book should be as verbose as it would scare away anyone that isn't already an avid reader.

Anyone picking up a book called "How to Read a Book" would expect something that is easy flowing. Although it's not hard to comprehend, it can go on for too long, and it can be seen by a lot of the negative reviews of newer readers being tripped up on a How To book.

Yes I know. I stole the Albert Speer book from the Seattle library years ago, because it was dusty and never got checked out. I would go visit this copy for years, like an old friend. Always in the same spot. It was sitting next to where ALL the computers are used by bums watching hardcore porn out in the open in front of kids. There was also a suspicious trend of removing the western canon bit by bit from Seattle libraries without word.

I walked out with it so that it may survive in a home that will love and respect it, before some Antifa street kid defaces it or some needling schoolmarm requests it’s removal.

Unrelated, but another Breker pic

One of the themes in the Illiad is how rank is more important than truth: Achilles wants truth in the form of the oracle's prophecy regarding Agamemnon's woman, by the end of the book we see kings wining in sports activities because of their rank rather than the truth of their strength: How can you not see that a society like a fascist one valuing rank higher than any truth is just pathetic?

I think the strength of Homer is how it, unlike
many myths, really problematizes the topic it describes: Unlike Gilgamesh where heroism, violence and strength is glorified (Gilgamesh's reflections on death is great though), the Iliad and Odyssey has a much more nuanced relationship to war and violence. I don't think a fascist, and especially not a futurist, perspective can really understand how great Homer actually is.

I will prefer avoiding the fascist version of the "have you read capital? have you read state and revolution? have you read the bread book?" conversation tree, so if I'm so uninformed about fascism please tell me what I am missing.
The only classes in the Iliad are kings, warriors and a few priests - now that i have provided, on the top of my head, a reading of the Illiad that problematizes authoritarianism which is an essential part of fascism, I hope you can provide me a reading of the same book which one can only appreciate through fascism. Most fascists and far right conservatives I have spoken to have hardly read any classics - so I would appreciate if you could provide a distinctly fascist reading of the Iliad.

I don't think it makes sense to read classics through the lens of any modern ideology. Facism, socialism, liberalism etc. did not exist, trying to find them within a work like the Illiad could be interesting, but seems like a lazy way to read.

Stop being disingenuous and just admit you have no idea what fascism actually is. You're attacking a strawman. If you want to avoid that tree, don't go down the route of assuming to know what something is and then misconstruing it.
>Most fascists and far right conservatives I have spoken to have hardly read any classics

This is the vaguest definition: Maoism is also different classes coming together to transcend bourgeois interrest(in opposition to citoyen). but here I can point to which classes (peasantry and proletariat) and why (to transcend exploitation): Later Maoism allowing for national -and petit bourgeoisie in the union of classes against capitalism.

There's different iterations of fascism but one definition that I could give is that the people/the volk has a spirit of the people/a volkgeist and through this volkgeist they are united as a civilization, a strong leadership unites the volk and establishes peace as a leviathan. When encountering another volkgeist only war or ceasefire is possible: when the people of one volk, one civilization, starts mixing with another the whole civilization looses unity, the leader and party looses unity and chaos and degeneracy ensues. Therefore the only peaceful coexistence of two volk is based on complete separation, and the only peaceful coexistence is a strong government that suppresses any descend. Is this your stupid position?

Which classes, which materialism? if you do not specify what you mean by these words you could just as well not say anything. I assume your notion of materialism is more like spiritual materialism? and by classes you mean???The slaves are hardly mentioned in the Illiad so its probably not a master/slave class unity you argue for.
