Spoke to my friend on the other side of the world today. It was a good, honest conversation, but the most memorable part of the conversation was when I shared with him a moment in which I listened to an ASMR recording of ‘girlfriend talks me to sleep’. He responded by calling it pathetic. My gut impulse was to feel hurt and insulted, but I challenged it into something positive (new brain pattern) because I am trying to 1) feel more respect and compassion for myself 2) realize that what he said was just his limited view of things, and possibly an emotional projection of his own insecurities 3) in some ways doing what I did wasn’t healthy and it’s right to acknowledge it without feeling ashamed.
