Who the hell is Vintage Pynchon? Is that a French name?

The first section is a bit of a slog, better on a reread, but once you get to the second part it really takes off.

Assuming you are retarded, it's Vintage as in the publisher and Pynchon as in Thomas Pynchon's last name.

Honest opinion here:
I love that book. Is my fav novel.
Yes, its a bit tricky, but not hard or impossible. Is it rewarding? Absolutely.
I helped my comprehension of the text with two websites:

Page by Page Annotations: https://gravitys-rainbow.pynchonwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Pages_3-7

and

https://www.ottosell.de/pynchon/rainbow.htm

just found this:

https://thelibguy.wordpress.com/2020/04/13/gravitys-rainbow-beyond-the-zero-chapter-summaries/

Man, I loved the experience of reading it. Is full of adventure, humor and so many things I can't even begin to describe, it's amazing.

Hope you enjoy it

be patient when you read it. it takes work to appreciate, and if you aren't willing to invest effort you won't like it much (and there is nothing wrong with not wanting to read such a book, for the record).
many people carry around luggage about this book, and frankly it's downright weird. people who like it tend to "show off", people who hated it tend to be frustrated and write it off entirely. approach it in a more detached way and you'll find it more enjoyable. half the enjoyment comes from the aesthetic quality of Pynchon's prose, not the plot or characters. if you are hellbent on reading/understanding GR the same way as you've read/understood previous novels, you'll be disappointed.

This is great to keep in mind. Before I read it i saw someone say something to the effect of "On the first read you might not even understand half of what is going on. Just keep reading instead of trying to understand everything"

>>18310536
Yeah pretty much. I think its hardness is overestimated. Not to say that it's an easy read, but I definitely understood the gist of the plot after my first blind readthrough without any external sources

Most of it is incredibly straightforward to read. There are honestly not many parts that are difficult to comprehend at all, and the rare sections that are are so on purpose because the characters themselves are in confusing situations.
There is a stark and easily noticeable difference between a good writer with a wide vocabulary and a bad writer using "obscurantism," and if you think Pynchon is the latter you either haven't read him or you haven't read anything else since high school.

How do you read something like this and accuse the author of being an obscurantist? If you genuinely can't parse this, what books are the right level of difficulty for you? Are you just too dumb to read anything beyond YA?
