There should be a massive list of wikipedia articles for things that are considered mandatory knowledge for any educated person

Look up the syllabus of the subject you want to be educated in. Many Ivy League schools publish their syllabus online. They should outline everything academics want you to know about the subject. It is my opinion however that this method results in one learning what others think you should know and not necessarily what is actually prescient.

Even if some acquaintance with a topic is considered a general knowledge, Wikipedia article on it will be far too specific. For this kind of stuff Britannica is superior, because it generalizes more, is more concise and lays things out in layman's terms.
