Can you say more about this? It's been awhile since I've read A Wizard of Earthsea, so maybe the early chapters are less interesting than I recall, but I'm having a hard time parsing exactly why you mean.

Exposition and an almost audible narrator is sort of a Le Guin thing. At least with Earthsea. I have less experience with her other work. I guess I can see how a lot of exposition could turn off a reader, but plentiful description doesn't quite get me to "vapid and uninspired."

I messed up. I meant paragraphs (non native english speaker here) first three paragraphs made me instantly sleepy. First i start to yawn at this nonentity of voice, the the word Gontishman trips my attention and its a downhill to the end of paragraph three when i’m totally disinterested with a book.
