Does anyone else prefer novellas over longer form fiction?

For me it's the perfect length, you can finish something by Camus in 3/4 hours, do something else with your day and still have broadened your horizons and enjoyed something in its entirety.

It seems to make perfect sense considering the limited attention span of contemporary readers. You can finish a novella in less time than the average person watched netflix a day.

Yes, I love novellas. I dont know why they're overlooked so often.

I'm convinced it's because of the publishing industry deciding that they made the most profit on books of a certain length.
Long books mean you can sell fancy hard covers for 40 dollars.
It's hard to justify paying 10 dollars for a novella you will finish in 4 hours.

Ultimately it's just more proof that capitalism is great at generating wealth, but really shit at promoting quality.

Novellas can be a bit too short and insubstantial. I prefer short novels of around 40-60,000 words. It makes them easy to reread and every good book should be read multiple times.

I read the 4chan meme novella.
And it was surprisingly good too.

I don't prefer them, but I appreciate them equally. For me, the perfect length of a book is 300-350 pages.
