Introverts can be plenty social too.
The difference is social interaction drains their energy, so they need time to recover.
Extroverts get energy from social interaction. Which is why they only stop when they get blackout drunk.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying you need a great deal of friends. Quality is far more important.
But I'd still say even an introvert needs two or three real connections for life to be good. Even if one is a close relative or partner. Or even a colleague you get on with really well, but never see out of work.

I don't think it has necessarily do with intelligence, but more so with identification with thinking.
I think that smarter people pay attention to their thoughts more, which inclines them to depression. They're disconnected from their own sensory experience and are focused on their thoughts. This isn't a problem for positive or neutral thoughts, but negative thoughts are magnified because of attention.
I noticed that for me personally, when I'm happier, the flow of my thoughts is weak and so is my identification with them. And when I'm depressed, I feel stuck in my head, and my depressing thoughts seem to be the highlight of my sensory experience.
Notice how I said "pay attention to thinking" and not just "thinking". A person who hears their thoughts in a detached matter also thinks, but they're not attached to their thoughts. Thus, they can discard useless thoughts and selectively only pay attention to better thoughts.

All this stuff is probably addressed by nondual spirituality though, like advaita vedanta or some branches of mahayana, thought they add some metaphysical explanations too.

Pay attention to the world in a way which produces positive emotion. It really is quite simple. By focusing deeply on the good and by noticing that goodness in the bad, bad things no longer feel very bad. There is badness in goodness but if you truly centre your thoughts in an understanding of fundamental goodness unhappiness begins to slowly lose all meaning. Happiness isn’t real. It’s a desire to be content. Being smart means you have a desire for more knowledge and a list for new ideas and experiences. This means one is never satisfied in their search for knowledge. The intelligent will never be content, and thus never happy. You will reflect fondly on memories and imagine yourself happy, yet never actively think during one of those events that you are in a current state of happiness.

You have to learn how to contemplate the unchanging reality of the forms, for in this contemplation the object of thought and the thinking itself are one and the same, and this object is truly one, beautiful and good. And because the contemplator becomes like to what he contemplates, the lover of wisdom who tarries with the unchanging form becomes like to the form in beauty and goodness, so that the wise man is the just man, who is the good man, who is the beautiful man. And looking around he is able to recognize the divine unity (for the unity he contemplates is God) in all the dross and tidal-tossed becoming he sees around him: he sees the divine order and reality shining out in all that he sees. It flares out even from the grasshoppers in the field, and in his eyes all can see that this man has come to know God.

Smart people need a mission. Unfortunately for smart people, smart and strength of will have a weak correlation. Smart people who cannot be happy on their own, need someone or a group who can provide them structure. Basically, if you are a miserable smart person, you need to make friends with the "dumb jocks", workout, do bro stuff, and learn how to get outside of your head and live in the present without over analyzing it. If you can arrest your intellectual vanity, those "dumb jocks" will help you separate the signal from the noise (in your head) and you'll have missions (for lack of a better word) that you can achieve and provide a sense of fulfillment, happiness.

Schopenhauer offers much insight into the relationship between happiness and intelligence, or more accurately, the degree of awareness a creature possesses. Humans, he argues, suffer more than animals because they are conscious of their suffering in time. They know it may continue in the future, whereas the animal simply experiences pain sensations in the moment without attempting to find any deeper meaning in it.

Read the following passage but replace references to the "brute" with "jock" and "man" with "nerd"

The brute is much more content with mere existence than man; the plant is wholly so; and man finds satisfaction in it just in proportion as he is dull and obtuse. Accordingly, the life of the brute carries less of sorrow with it, but also less of joy, when compared with the life of man; and while this may be traced, on the one side, to freedom from the torment of care and anxiety, it is also due to the fact that hope, in any real sense, is unknown to the brute. It is thus deprived of any share in that which gives us the most and best of our joys and pleasures, the mental anticipation of a happy future, and the inspiriting play of phantasy, both of which we owe to our power of imagination. If the brute is free from care, it is also, in this sense, without hope; in either case, because its consciousness is limited to the present moment, to what it can actually see before it. The brute is an embodiment of present impulses, and hence what elements of fear and hope exist in its nature – and they do not go very far – arise only in relation to objects that lie before it and within reach of those impulses: whereas a man’s range of vision embraces the whole of his life, and extends far into the past and future.

Following upon this, there is one respect in which brutes show real wisdom when compared with us – I mean, their quiet, placid enjoyment of the present moment. The tranquillity of mind which this seems to give them often puts us to shame for the many times we allow our thoughts and our cares to make us restless and discontented. And, in fact, those pleasures of hope and anticipation which I have been mentioning are not to be had for nothing. The delight which a man has in hoping for and looking forward to some special satisfaction is a part of the real pleasure attaching to it enjoyed in advance. This is afterwards deducted; for the more we look forward to anything, the less satisfaction we find in it when it comes. But the brute’s enjoyment is not anticipated, and therefore, suffers no deduction; so that the actual pleasure of the moment comes to it whole and unimpaired. In the same way, too, evil presses upon the brute only with its own intrinsic weight; whereas with us the fear of its coming often makes its burden ten times more grievous.

>> No.18244091

>>18244068
I didn't really complete my thought. I concur that there is wisdom in the nature of the brute/jock, that they are in a way enlightened though they are less conscious than the introspective and reflective intellectual. Like a dog, they are fully absorbed in the present and in tune with their instincts and therefore centered in the only true reality of which one can be sure, the current moment. The intellectual spreads himself over past, present and future, considers hollow possibilities and excess alternatives. They drown in excessive consciousness and forget how to live.

The quality & variety of the company preferred depends mostly on its fit to the capacity of one's memory: Any dull person or scene is draining as a brilliant one is vitalizing to someone with a strong memory, from which the taste for solitude develops along with the aptitude for selection and measure. Most men with a serene air in maturity, neither needy nor wooden, approachable and easy to talk to by almost anyone, dismissed or dismissive without offense, develop on strength of memory. It's almost a paradox how the more acute and capacious the listener is, the more freely others confess themselves to him, until he knows them better than they know themselves. The social virtuosity that stems from a strong memory is also the opposite of parasitic, since it preserves both the man and others from error with a kind of negligent ease, even indifference to which gains most from a typical conversation. What drains everyone is tendentiousness without imagination. Like advertising, it is nothing but repetitive begging and lying combined. As for depth in friendship, that is mostly a question of intellect: Two stupid people simply run out of subjects long before their mutually irritating habits become a theme, that swells to bickering and fills the vacuum with rancor, while two brilliant people barely notice those amid the immense panoply conjured whenever they combine. The irony is that neither of the two brilliant guys are trying. It is entirely play, and takes none of the hard work that marriage and other comparably contractual arrangements do.

That’s just life anon. Everyone is walking their path and sometimes yours intersects with another. You can bond, have a grand time, really connect and it’s all great. But eventually paths disperse. They gotta do their thing, you gotta do yours. For instance, there was a guy I knew in college who was like an older brother I never had, helped guide me through an awkward phase, and I truly loved him. But college ends, he’s in another town doing his career, gets a girl, a whole separate thing from me, in my new town, pursuing my own goals. Eventually we lose touch. But it was still worth that experience, I’m better for knowing him and I hope the same is true in the reverse, but the point is some relationships end. But then other paths converge with yours again, new bonds are made, and so on. Permanence does not necessarily equal meaning and meaning does not always involve permanence.

Read nietzche dude, about truth in a extra-moral way. Power is just a made up concept, and for you to create it you have to use other concepts.
Example: Power is (some other concept)
You cant define power with "Power is Power" .
So I mean, dont worry about concepts they are made up just to be used like a tool.

>It's almost a paradox how the more acute and capacious the listener is, the more freely others confess themselves to him, until he knows them better than they know themselves.
God I hate this. I have a best friend that’s no longer a best friend because of this. He’s gotten so used to this that he used to “hang out” with me for an hour to talk about his problems then leave as if I am his therapist. Absolutely no concern for me except for the superficial ‘how are you’ which is short for ‘say you’re fine so I can talk pls’. Never invites me to anything and keeps his other circle of friends away from me. I ghosted him and every once in a while he asks to “hang out” again every time I hear of a “problem” he is having. Fuck off, I’m tired of having my brain and time being eaten by emotional leeches.

Also if you have a loving parent, sibling, etc. get closer to them. It may be uncool but those kind of close relationships do a lot for your inner well being.
