Is 1985 any good? I initially learned about it trying to make a joke, but then I realizes that it was an actual book. Thoughts?

Haven't even heard of it, but I'm gonna look it up. If it's a 1984 fanfiction about overthrowing big brother I'm going to post a smug picture of George Costanza

Read the wikipedia summary:
It's interesting how the Author predicted the Islamification of Britain in 1978.
A lot of the stuff is very dated in hindsight. The idea that teaching would become overly focused on practicality is the opposite of what's happened, where too much of what we learn is pure theory.
I also find it funny that Burgess projected his political enemies into the role of big brother. He made the trade unions the villain of the book, and the muslims as a side antagonist. That's something I've noted happens a lot with Orwell, to the left the right is big brother, to the right the left is.
Since my original guess was somewhat close to what the book really is, I decided to post a picture of George Costanza with a non-smug demeanor

Nothing Burgess did after or before A Clockwork Orange is good. He's just a dated author

i've read it and yes it's great, solid 8/10
first half is especially intriguing and curious to read, then Burgess' own vision of realistic dystopian future in the second half may be more in tune with the modern contrarian thought
definitely worth a read, it's pretty short too

Wanting sneed is better than 1984 and BNW
