How many books constitute a library?

>> No.18229595

>>18229588
A personal library can start at 50+ I would say.

Good question.
It depends. Personal library? 30 books or a shelf.

>> No.18230006

everyone above is drawing arbitrary lines that are unjustified. If you have more than one book in one place it's a library.

Is the Bible a library since it is made of 66 books?

>> No.18230068

1 room full. if you assume 1 room to be 4 walls each wall would only need to be the length of a standard book case. so like a small closet. or to visualise it take 4 book cases and arrange them in a square. stand in the middle . you're in a library.

>>18230068
in more specific scenarios you might imagine a triangular room or a circular room. still i think it's fair to say a library is a 1 room worth of book. or 3-4 book cases or walls of shelves

it's not so much about the size or volume as the enclosure

talking about a compendium/collection as a library as in a collection/series or virtual ebooks is a metaphor. i forget the name for it. but its the same concept as the delete function on a desktop being named after a trashcan or indeed the desk top being named after a desk top

You could probably justify one book as being a library honestly since a book is just a collection of pages. I think if you have a collection of information somewhere, it's a library.

But if you wanted a more practical answer I'd say it depends on your subject matter. If you had a collection of relevant works it would be easier to see that collection as a library. For example if you had about 20 or 30 books focused on 19th Century American Lit organized to be constantly used that would look more like a conventional "library" of books. But if you just had a few random books laying around your house and some comics or newspapers, that doesn't really make me think "library".

a library is a wealth of books
a decent library has tens of thousands

This is ridiculous. Where do you sit if every wall has shelves?

>> No.18232132

A LIBRARY IS A DEPOSITORY OF TOMES, OR SCROLLS, AVAILABLE FOR CONSULTATION; THE MINIMVM IS ONE ITEM.

>> No.18232140

Those lines are not arbitrary, they're used and context-dependent. For a private library 30 books is already enough. For the national library of a decently-sized nation you need at least a few thousands.

This is only stupid because farms are about making products not having them.
