I'm genuinely torn /lit/. Living life solely for myself seems petty and empty. I need a higher purpose that I can devout myself to. But are all those higher purposes nothing but spooks? What should a person be and why?

Stirner never said that, if you want to follow a spook go do it, the key is knowing it’s a spook so if it ever hinders your personal goals then just stop believing it

How is OPs pic not saying that? If you can just abandon a spook when it hinders your self interest than it was never a moral principle to begin with, just a general suggestion.

People here are going to seethe but I've thought about this too and pretty much the only objective purpose you can give yourself to that provides continuity between you and it and a legacy is your race. It's biological, race isn't a spook, and while you can argue all you want about how "white" and certain ethnicities are poorly defined and ever-changing, our more accurate methods of defining race like haplo-groups and shit are more than enough to provide you with a solid idea of what race you are, even if you're a mutt who doesn't know who your grandparents are. I was once like you OP and the only real conclusion I've come to is race (and your immediate/extended family, but these should also be of the same race so there's no reason to act like the two interests are in conflict, unless you're a mutt). I'm not advocating you to do anything with this information like become a whatever-your-race-is supremacist, but you can just view it like a biological football team, I think this is enough to give you a reason to live, it worked for me (although I am also a christian, but before I used to not care and it was only after I found something to care about that I was able to appreciate religion).

Don't Christians believe everyone inherently possesses some sense of God given morality anyway?

How is race not a spook? If the human race and the good of man is a spook than surely race as well is. Didn't Stirner himself say that the family was a spook?

Amoralism is only dangerous when you are also antisocial. If you are a social human being, you will automaticallt think in group intrests.

Abstract concepts, race is biological. You have a race, and unique qualities as a result of it that make you different from other races. I don't consider it a spook as long as you don't take actions disadvantageous to yourself as a result of it, I am racist in my mind all day but don't act on it.

Excellent. Come work for me. I can assure you the work you will do is directed at higher goals. Your reward will be the chance to do such work itself.

If your goal is selflessness, then you'll want to be a Buddhist monk so you can ultimately shed the "self."

Isn't devotion to a cause and potential martyrdom not selfless enough? Was Jesus Christ not selfless?

No. Jesus Christ is a myth.

Okay so is Sisyphus, the myth can still be used to discuss ideas. So is Jesus Christ selfless or not?

"What is the purpose of skillful virtues? What is their reward?"

"Skillful virtues have freedom from remorse as their purpose, Ananda, and freedom from remorse as their reward."

"And what is the purpose of freedom from remorse? What is its reward?"

"Freedom from remorse has joy as its purpose, joy as its reward."

"And what is the purpose of joy? What is its reward?"

"Joy has rapture as its purpose, rapture as its reward."

"And what is the purpose of rapture? What is its reward?"

"Rapture has serenity as its purpose, serenity as its reward."

"And what is the purpose of serenity? What is its reward?"

"Serenity has pleasure as its purpose, pleasure as its reward."

"And what is the purpose of pleasure? What is its reward?"

"Pleasure has concentration as its purpose, concentration as its reward."

"And what is the purpose of concentration? What is its reward?"

"Concentration has knowledge & vision of things as they actually are as its purpose, knowledge & vision of things as they actually are as its reward."

"And what is the purpose of knowledge & vision of things as they actually are? What is its reward?"

"Knowledge & vision of things as they actually are has disenchantment as its purpose, disenchantment as its reward."

"And what is the purpose of disenchantment? What is its reward?"

"Disenchantment has dispassion as its purpose, dispassion as its reward."

"And what is the purpose of dispassion? What is its reward?"

"Dispassion has knowledge & vision of release as its purpose, knowledge & vision of release as its reward.

"Thus in this way, Ananda, skillful virtues have freedom from remorse as their purpose, freedom from remorse as their reward. Freedom from remorse has joy as its purpose, joy as its reward. Joy has rapture as its purpose, rapture as its reward. Rapture has serenity as its purpose, serenity as its reward. Serenity has pleasure as its purpose, pleasure as its reward. Pleasure has concentration as its purpose, concentration as its reward. No devotion doesnt lead to insight into not-self, only leads to a good rebirth. This is why worship, mantras and tantras created by gurus never works to stop being ignorant. Guruism is never the answer.
