What are some /lit/ dogs? Dogs you just want to curl up by the fire with and read some novels? For me, it's the Borzoi.

>> No.18228224

I haven't been the same since my dog died when I was a teenager. We got her when I was young, my mom had just got married. But a few years later, during the last few months of the marriage, they would just go to the garage and get drunk and argue, and they left me with my best dog. After the divorce my mom and I had to move back home with my grandparents. My grandmother is a clean freak and has a major fear of dogs, so my little girl had to go with my now ex step dad. But eventually he moved on and remarried and that wife hated having a dog that reminded her of her husbands ex wife's child. She got moved over to my mom's new boyfriends house, where she wasn't taken very good care of. Fleas, underfed, dirty house. It was awful. Eventually I pulled her out of there and over to a vet. I pleaded with my ex step dad to find a home, and he did. He had a friend who had taken in a few abandoned dogs. It was a loving home. I was in college, sleeping over at my then girlfriend's apartment, when I got the call that my baby girl had to be put down. I cried for hours. I felt shame that I wasn't there for her like I should have been. I felt stupid for being such a stupid kid, thrown around by all these adults around me. I felt dead inside, like my heart and feelings had left my body along with those tears. No relationship has ever been that strong. No one ever took care of me like that dog. No friend has ever been as loyal. I miss her so god damn much some times. That sweet little lab mix.

Before I start crying again, anons. I remember we had a futon. and the cat would sleep on top of it. And the dog liked to imitate the cat. but eventually the dog got too big and the whole futon slipped off its frame when she tried to jump up there. She was so shocked. It was funny and I hugged her.

I miss that dog.

They're also very good at learning things.
The only downside I'd say is that they can be a bit loud and kinda egocentric if you don't train them properly.

>Bashan and I is the moving story of Thomas Mann's relationship with his spirited German short-haired pointer. From their first encounter at a local farm, Mann reveals how he slowly grows to love this energetic, loyal, and intelligent animal. Taking daily walks in the nearby parkland, Mann begins to understand and appreciate Bashan as a living being, witnessing his native delight in chasing rabbits, deer, and squirrels along with his careful investigations of stones, fallen branches, and clumps of wet leaves. As their bond deepens, Mann is led to contemplate Bashan's inner life, and marvels at the ease with which his dog trusts him, completely putting his life into his master's hands.

This was my childhood dog. There's videos of me as a toddler playing with this massive rottweiler—climbing on her and so on. I remember vividly the day she died. I was playing some sport, but I didn't recognize the severity of the situation until I went back and looked at those old videos depicting my youthful exuberance. The one that got me the most was a video of me trying to climb on her like a fucking retard and, when my dad came to pick me up, she would nudge his hands away. Many such cases as I was told.

For the sake of recompense, I vowed that the moment I actually settled down in a some such country, my first task would be buying a rott puppy.

Poodles are the shit. Basically an optimal dog. They are super smart but unlike other really smart dogs (border collies, Australian Shepards, etc.) they don’t have a retarded amount of energy. They’re easy to train and make great companions. Having had some working dogs which I loved and now a poodle I don’t know if I would get any dog that wasn’t a poodle in the future. As another anon pointed out they are vocal, they’re barking isn’t aggressive but they like to bark. Probably the biggest downside. Overall 9/10.

Also those little yippy dogs are the most noisy (outside of huskies and other howler types who want to howl at the moon) because they are abominations against nature and have had all their innate formidableness bred out of them and have to compensate for the humiliation of being the decendents of fearsome wolves and becoming helpless little human playthings by making a lot of noise.
