The guy who wrote the book is fucking insufferable.
That being said, after reading it I stopped believing in hell as a place of eternal damnation.
What your thoughts are about Christian Universalism and David Bentley Hart in general?

I prefer non jewish cults, like buddhism. No non-sense, no rituals, no gods, no sacrifices, no mingling with politics.

You clearly know nothing about Buddhism.

Im not Christian but I like DBH enough where I’ve listen to at least half a dozen hour long talks of his on youtube, I’d like to read his books eventually. I appreciate how he draws from philosophy of mind. I think universal salvation is really the most logical way of reconciling hell with a God who is supposed to be loving and pure good, although I’m not very knowledgable in Christian theology.

Buddhisms denial of the self is wrong, it’s basically metaphysical cuckoldry, and if there is no self then there is no way to explain how we persist from moment to moment without losing awareness or our sense of having an enduring identity. Nihilists and atheists who want a materialistic version of spirituality like Buddhism.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
“Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

I find the concept of universalism bizarre and nonsensical. If everyone is saved anyway then there is literally zero reason to persuade anyone else that universalism is true, to write about universalism or even to talk about it at all unless you're asked. It's like a religion that attacks itself.

What's the point of being religious in the first place if you believe in something so retarded? You're just making shit up at that point, and plus, even IF hell in some or all cases was finite, the punishment would still SEEM eternal, and would still be so horrific that it wouldn't do anything to put emphasis on it, like these retards do. Doing that just makes you complacent.

"we" don't persist moment to moment because there isn't anyone who persists. it appears that there is someone who persists because of memories.

I think the idea is to convince people who don't believe in universalism to stop making life pretty shitty for everyone by cramming their repressive, paranoid bullshit down everyone's throats, so they should just stop being enormous dildos and cut it the fuck out.

The basic thesis, that an infinitely good perfect being would eternally punish finite and fallible beings for any transgressions is absurd and based in primitive human conceptions of revenge mascaraing as "justice", is humane and makes a lot of sense. I thought of that years ago and didn't know it had an actual name until I got to university.

I like his translation of the NT. He calls logos logos and lets you wrestle with its implications instead of calling it "word" or "spirit" or whatever. He also translates "lo" as "look" which gives it a more visceral, vernacular punch "now look!" "and look" etc.
