It's "Ecumenical"... there's commentary on different theological interpretations but it doesn't value any interpretation over another. If you're looking for a specific religion's interpretation in depth you should look elsewhere, but the NOAB gives a good broad view.

It also has gender-neutral language. Be on the lookout for that.

(Not like tranny pronouns but it usually says "men and women" where the original text usually just said "men" when referring to a group, stuff like that)

I was thrown off by "ecumenical" because it is the textbook used in all of my christianity classes and i initially thought it was just non-religious commentary

I hate that just because it makes the text clunkier but at least it wasn't included for political reasons

The OSB was published by Thomas Nelson who owns the copyright to the NKJV translation, which the OSB uses, and the Eastern Orthodox Church had zero control over it, much less were they consulted during any part of the publishing and translation process, nor had the blessing of the Orthodox Church. Use the Eastern Irthodox Bible NT, because it was translated from the Patriarchal Text, which is the approved Bible of the Orthodox Church and either the Lexham English Septuagint or the New English Translation of the Septuagint for the Old Testament.

KJV is the only legitimate Bible

The word on fire bible looks pretty cool with commentary from church fathers and other prominent writers

It touches on theological interpretations in some of the essays but the vast majority of the commentary historical critical. I have one and highly recommend it.

It's historical-critical and not theological. Some of the essays at the end cover theological interpretations but still from a historical perspective.

The annotations usually point out where the translations has glossed over gender differentiation, so it is actually very good for counteracting that aspect of the NRSV if you find it an issue.

English is like one pronoun away from being gender neutral anyway, it is a language built for the gays

>> No.18208636

In simple terms: is it worth buying for someone who has already read the Bible and has a reasonable understanding of the literary influence it's had but not much else?

If you need a study bible get the ESV, it is vastly superior.
