What can I read if I want medieval stories about romance and fair maidens and horses?

>medieval stories
Do you mean stories written in the medieval period or stories set in the medieval period?

Arthur Conan Doyle wrote some fun historical novels. The White Company & Sir Nigel are Elizabethan rather than medieval but they might suit your book.

Gawain and the Green Knight, Tolkien version is nice. You can get a cheap paperback or a fancy hardcover, both also come with Pearl and Sir Orfeo.
