Rousseau has interesting things to say about cosmopolitan vanity and amour de soi, but the rest of his theory is awful dreck. I think pic related is surprisingly underrated nowadays in both relevance and influence, and basically all of his theories have been unmitigated disasters for the fabric of community and pursuit of pleasure above all else.

Things do not appear ex nihilo just because you lack the faculties to comprehend and track their intellectual and ideological lineage.

Let me give you an example your undeveloped brain and extra chromosomes will (hopefully!) be able to handle - when was the last instance you heard someone say that an individual should be allowed to do something that is immoral, decadent, or selfish because "it isn't hurting anyone else?" Mainstream acceptance of this line of reasoning is a direct application of Mill's philosophical principles.
