In technological terms, certainly certain civilizations are/were more advanced than others. But when it comes to mythology and art, the idea of civilizations being better than one another falls flat. The Greco-Roman canon, the Mesoamerican mythos, the Indian epics, the Aboriginal Dreamtime are all accomplishments on par with one another. If you go into this with the mindset that these non-European civilizations are culturally, inferior, I don't know why you would bother.
