Has there ever been a more ludicrously distorted history than this? I think it's worse that people sincerely defend it. Historiography has suffered serious credibility issues since its release.

Did you even read it? He openly admits in the introduction that it's a heavily biased account of American history. He wasn't trying to write a complete picture of history, he just wanted it to stand as a counterweight to the propagandized history that was being taught everywhere at that time.

It's not that he outright lies, but that some of the sources are incredibly dubious. For example, right off the hop he leans heavily on las Casas, but there's pretty much zero % chance that las Casas' writings were anything more than exaggerated Indian fanfic following the typical oral tradition. No doubt there are many more, but this one jumped out at me during a fresh read.

It wouldn’t make sense to read it in school as it is a counter weight to the Great Men type US history taught in schools.

What blows my mind is that the book paints a huge picture of oppression. People being beaten and murdered and subjugated. I thought /pol/ got off on that.
