Where do I start with George Bataille?
And how the fuck do I pronounce his stupid French name?

>> No.1812398

HEY ANON, HOW'S IT GOING?

BATAILLE'S 'THE STORY OF THE EYE' IS ESSENTIAL /LIT/CORE, AND IT'S SHORT, CHECK THAT SHIT.

OTHER THAN THAT, I'M AT A LOSS UNFORTUNATELY, FRENCH LIT ISN'T REALLY MY THING.

YUKIO MISHIMA WROTE THE INTRODUCTION FOR 'MY MOTHER/MADAME EDWARDA/THE DEAD MAN, SO MAYBE CHECK THAT OUT IF IT'S ACCESSIBLE?

NO PROBLEM. I'LL DO MY BEST TO FIND SOME OBSCURE LITERATURE TO READ, AND IF I EVER SEE YOU AGAIN, I'LL REPORT BACK WITH RECOMMENDATIONS.

>> No.1812435

it's pronounced bah-tie (i pronounced it buh-teal or something for the longest time cos i'm a retard)

and yeah, story of the eye is the best place to start. blue of noon is also good but it's a lot stranger than story of the eye, not as out-and-out shocking, at least not in the same ways. a hard book to pin-down basically, which holds for bataille himself. when you ask where to 'start' with him, it's naturally difficult considering he transcends any notion of discreet disciplines/genres. like are you going to be interested in his stuff on base economics and stuff? you should be as everything he does it tied together.

but yeah i dunno just go for story of the eye, the penguin classics version has two essays by sontag and barthes with it which you might find helpful

>> No.1812436

also don't be scared by capsguy, he's like a tripfag who doesn't have a trip and who isn't a massive wang-doodle (like every other tripfag on this board)

accursed share has some of his most fruitful ideas

Thanks a bunch.
Also, Bah-tie. I'm ashamed of saying that to the owner of the shop really.

Ba-tal

And the g's are all softened in that french way

It's Bah-tie.

bah-TIE
Much like the way Versailles is pronounced.

>wang-doodle

Debatable, but largely true. He's got some really retarded views about literature, but he generally makes his points well and stays clear of the circle jerking. I'd say he's 50/50 as opposed to someone like w00f or D&E who are basically 110% shithead.

Are the essays by Sontag and Barthes available on the net? No penguins where I live.
