This is a bombshell. I've never considered the roles faith and works play in salvation. Has anyone? Has this matter ever been discussed before? Keep this thread alive. I'm calling the Vatican.

>Why yes, I believe in the Holy Trinity
>No, that's not polytheism, there is only one God.
>No, God is not divisible, each member of the Trinity is God in itself.
>Stop fucking posting that meme, you know I hate it.
>You know what, maybe God can be 3=1, how that is the case will always, however, be incomprehensible to our puny human minds.
No, I can explain exactly how and why the Christian god is 3=1. A bunch of old Roman men from different sects formed the Council of Nicea to settle the matter of the Trinity. During the decision making process (the trinity was a decision, let's not kid ourselves), they were influenced by two factors. Firstly, monotheism was vogue in Rome. Secondly, polytheistic worship used to be vogue in Rome, and people didn't feel comfortable about writing off their entire ancestral line to hell. So they decided that god was 3=1 and called it a day. That is the entire mystery behind your trinity - mere socio-cultural circumstances

It is funny how you invert the order of things but the simplicity in your explanation betrays your very superficiality. Paganism is fruit of mere anthropological conditionings and as even some pagan themselves noted the gods are mere mythological symbolism referring to past events in humanity, be it in the already formed community or prior to it. The Trinity is expressed in OT and NT explicitly. I’ll not even go into the sophisticated explanation about what ousia and hypostasis are because obviously eludes your narrow mentality product of socio-cultural bias.

You don’t need to trust me. You can read works from pagan themselves, you can dedicate yourself to anthropological and comparative analyses, you can read Girard.

I think one of the best pieces of evidence against "no, James doesn't really mean what it says," is that Luther and other Protestants initially wanted to have it purged from the Bible. Only after this failed did they try to twist the meaning.

Maccabees similarly had to go because it supported purgatory. The political rationale was voiced first, then there was an attempt to find justification for deleting parts of the Bible that didn't follow "saved by faith alone," which is of course, a doctrine arrived at through logical axioms, not the direct word of Christ.

Apparently we know the Bible is inerrant because the Holy Spirit guided the men who voted on it, but the Holy Spirit just messed up and left the wrong books in for 1,500 years and forgot to tell the Ethiopians to boot Enoch out.

I think you're saved by a kind of sincerity. The penitent thief was saved because he truly, aided by his exacerbation, committed metanoia with faith that was sincerely admired by God. None of us don't get to ask the Savior next to us for help, nor do we get the blessings of martyrdom, so we must live and believe with a professed virtue and sincerity, doing God's command and good works in his name.
