Except it's not the argument that Schopenhauer perpetuates, it's a whole lot more nuanced. Schopenhauer doesn't view life itself as fundamentally futile―he views acts of Will as futile, insofar as the fullfillment of desire can only satiate oneself for so long, satiation is finite and fleeting, the desire for more subsists whilst whatever effect the Will had priorly achieved, has diminished, superseded by desire for more. The Will can never be satisfied, it always strives, it never fully fullfils itself. This is why Schopenhauer opts for ascetisim, as a way to counteract the perpetuity of the Will.

Life is, almost all the time, so fucking boring and depressing and just feels like work, and it seems like nothing you do actually improves how you feel about it. But maybe if you can be around a woman who's really pretty, you might feel happy and special for a time.
