Nihilism is the truth. Everything is meaningless. Existence is pointless and the universe was created in some cosmic joke that eventually became tiresome. We are all doomed to become dust in the wind, and the best we can hope for is that there’s some kind of big sleep at the end which wipes us all from existence.
The truth is, there are two kinds of people in the world. There are stupid people who think that life has meaning and that they themselves have value; and there are smart people who realize that it’s just the opposite. After all, do you really think that your life is the most significant thing in the universe? All these billions of galaxies, floating through space, all this complex machinery that allows us to communicate with each other and to change a toaster into a self-aware robot.
There's no reason to think that this was put here just to allow humanity to have a purpose. No reason at all. It was all set into motion by some energy field, and when that energy field decides that our time here is over, it will stop the machinery that gives us life. And then...boom. We’re done. Our only purpose was to exist for a brief period of time, and once we’ve fulfilled that purpose we don’t matter anymore.
