I want to read from writers such as Aristotle, Socrates, Epictetus, and Kierkegaard. But why is there so many translations and version? Which one is the best? Why not band together and make the ultimate version of the translation to get rid of all the other versions?

This is literally what each translation tries to do. They are informed by past ones while also trying to fix mistake and improve clarity etc.

Just look at whatever editions Universities are using.
