>If multiculturalism meant Cervantes then who could protest? But of course multiculturalism doesn't mean Cervantes
Was Bloom retarded? "Multiculturalism" means reading books and authors from outside of the Western secular liberal milieu. Cervantes is the epitome of it, he's not "multicultural" by virtue of having a darker skin than A*glos. If your understanding of multiculturalism is to read French, German and Spanish authors alongside A*glo authors then you don't really understand multiculturalism. Russian anti-Occidentalist literature would've been a better bet.

He's complaining that is is more about tearing down western authors than it is in support of anything.

Not really. Multiculturalism simply means reading books from different cultures. Spanish and French cultures are different cultures, for example. Not sure why Americans think all these are the same culture. But what he's saying, is that multiculturalism means having to read a lot of dogshit based solely on the fact that it's from a different culture, rather than by its own aesthetic virtues.

That's retarded. There's no national culture anymore in any country. It's all globalized. If you read post-French Revolution books in Spanish and French that's multilingualism, not multiculturalism.

Yes, there is.

Not quite. That's 100% just the US. But even they have their own culture.

They are different cultures. Go read a book.

Proof? To me they are both secular individualist shitholes. My understanding of multiculturalism is to expose the reader to radical Otherness that cannot be dissolved in the cheap liberal bourgeois talk of tolerance. I mean for example the Easterb collectivist anthropology vs. Western individualist a anthropology

You are mistaking culture with civilization. A culture is not the same as yours just because they're "secular individualist shitholes." That's a gross generalization and exaggeration. Multiculturalism simply means multiple cultures. The "radical" aspect is your own addition.

I see. Are there any books that flesh out the difference between culture and civilization?

That’s what you understood from that crystal clear sentence, you fucking retard? Bloom is saying Cervantes is a product of his own country, not that angl*s get to read it due to multiculturalism. How fucking dense are you?

He's accusing progressives of not reading Cervantes for his literary merit, but for the "multicultural" value of having read him. In other words: literary merit isn't important to them, and they aren't actually concerned with reading great works by other cultures.

>> No.18087481

What he's saying is quite simple but it needs context from the interview itself that you seem to be ignoring
He's saying this because multicultural literary criticism is overconcerned with very mediocre authors because of their cultural origins
He also points out that actually good authors from these backgrounds often get ignored because they require too much research for the multiculti professors, he gives the example of Jay Wright, the brightest jogger in literature
