Next book when?

It's a modern fantasy series. Who gives a shit?

Wow, the winds of winter still isn't out yet? I stopped checking in 2018

Unironically never, he wrote for money and now he has enough of that.

When GRRM passes away and whoever the publisher decides will finish the series gets to work. I know GRRM has said he doesn't want anyone to finish it, but I still think this will be a Jordan-Sanderson situation

I assumed it would come out after the show ended, and he had just been stalling to fuck the directors over.

Personally I think he's rewriting the entire plot, especially after the abysmal reception of King Bran on the show

>> No.18049358

>>18048804
The difference is that Jordan explicitly wanted his series to be finished after his death and left an absolute metric shitload of writing on how it was supposed to end. If GRRM doesn't want anyone to finish it then I'd imagine he wouldn't leave a ton of notes the way Jordan did. Depending on how he feels about it he may just delete everything he had written up as he lies on his deathbed.

Stan is killing his daughter, or shireen dying in general has poor reception.

>He cornered himself by adding way too many point of view characters.
Why did he thought having the Starks as the most P.OV was a good idea.

>> No.18050122

What I don't understand is that in 2020 he literally had nothing else to do. There were no comic book conventions. There were no sci-fi/fantasy conventions. There were no late night talk shows to do interviews on. Everyone was stuck at home for huge chunks of the year. He literally had nothing ELSE to do but bend over his dumb little machine and write The Winds Of Winter.

And he STILL didn't get it done.

It's so complicated.
The expectations are so high.
Everyone hated the show.
My legacy is on the line.
Maybe I'll just take the night off and have something to eat.
Some lemon cakes sound good...

>> No.18050315

Reminder that a few years ago he said to a fellow writer, "You ever kill off someone you later realize you needed?"

So his autistic love of shockingly killing off characters has nuked a critical element of his plot. That's got to be part of why he hasn't been writing, because he knows he fucked himself.

>> No.18050323

I wonder who was it? Was it Eddard? Renly? We know that fat fuck doesn't plan ahead.

>> No.18050334

>>18050323
My thinking is that it's got to be someone who died in the first three books. If it was someone who died in Feast or Dance, then that's "soon" enough that he could play around and somehow retcon their death. So I think it must be someone who's been dead for so long, in-story, that he can't easily bring them back.

>> No.18050358

>>18050334
The four major characters that died in Game of Thrones were Eddard, Robert, Viserys, and Drogo.

A Clash of Kings, Renly was the only major character that died. I think.

A Storm of Swords, Oberyn, Lysa, Tywin, Joffrey, Mormont and Robb and his top chiefs.

This. Family, close friends and publishers never listen an author's posthumous wishes. Whenever an author explicitly stated to never have his manuscripts published or unfinished works finished, they publish it anyway. It happened to Emily Dickinson, Franz Kafka, and Carl Jung.

GRRM is an atheist and so is his wife, this means his wife has no respect for the wishes of the dead and prioritizes the material world. This means she will 100% fuck him over from beyond the grave and authorize someone else to continue the series. The money will be too good to pass up.
