Start by reading anthologies and keeping notes of which poets you like, then you can look up similar poets/get their collected works.
Dont be afraid of reading more contemporary stuff even though a lot of it is trash. If you want to write, understanding the zeitgeist is important.

If you want book on poetry to get you started:
>Rhymes Reason - Hollander
>The Making of a Poem - Strand/Boland
>Princeton Guide to multicultural poetics
>why poetry - zapruder (for more contemporary views)

The people on this board are pretty ignorant about poetry but i doubt youll find anywhere thats better, so let your intuition and readings guide you

I want to know how to write poetry without going into purple prose. I understand poetry is often treated as a way to show off your knowledge of language etc..

But I don't like Baudelaire, I like unembelished verse. I understand style and craftsmanship are important, but meaning should be more important.

How does one write in an authentic, natural style without being a Hemmingway loser?
