Does anyone actually take "death of the author" seriously? The only people I've ever heard use that term have been retarded nerds talking about pop culture.

>> No.18012906

Had an english teacher in highschool go that route with the whole "No interpretation is wrong as long as you can back it up with evidence for the purposes of this classroom" but in private he said there defiantly were right answers

I think in some cases it can apply, it's just not that common for an author or film director or whatever to completely go nuts

No, it's literally just nerds' last resort when they have no argument and want to make their headcanon less retarded.

Seeing how many authors were either drunk or on drugs while writing, makes it pretty safe to assume that they weren't really conscious of what they're writing about.

This. Art can take on a new meaning of it's own, independent of the artist.

i dont think most people who cite it have read it even

I think the only reason why death of the author is so pervasive is because it streamlines classes on literary analysis because teachers can just assign a novel without having students spend time researching or discussing the author’s life and the historical context

I did one (1) english module in the first year of uni and they talked quite a bit about death of the author, the tutor was unironically a guy who was doing a post-doc studying marvel films but he was a pretty chill guy and not really the 'basedboy' caricature.

yeah but Furie was never the artist

saying death of the author ignores concept is pretty dumb, like take the book of genesis for exemple, if we only take what we can infer the writters though, we ignore that most of it's meaning has been given latter on through out the centuries

I would argue the artist was the first people who used it as a meme. Otherwise, whats the difference between the creator of a yellow paint and a painting.
